Rule 8.A dear friend has asked me to tell her what these dates mean from the point of view of Kabbalah. Obviously, it is the only point of view that I can comment, because I do not go to synagogues, I am not kosher nor do I pretend to delve into a rabbinical explanation.

As a precedent for lay people, I make the Wikipedia-like clarification that since the beginning of the month of Tishrei which usually coincides in the Hebrew lunar calendar with September and the autumn equinoxwhen the Rosh Ha Shana festival is celebrated there are ten terrible days until Yom Kippur, as we already said.

The biblical story tells that when Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the first tables of the law, he found the tribes worshiping a golden calf.

They asked for forgiveness, and prayed for 10 days the 10 days of anger, the terrible daysuntil Yom Kippur or day of forgiveness arrived, a day of prayer, fasting, where you cannot bathe, you cannot have sex, and all all other kosher restrictions.

The indication of these rituals by the religious tradition is because it is interpreted that it is a day to forgive others, to ask forgiveness for the ills and pains caused by us to others, and to forgive ourselves for being what we are-fallible humans- etc. Moses told the tribes that he was going to be 40 days on Mount Sinai, and to wait for him until he brought the word of God.

This is the reason why some Kabbalists say that for a correction, a change of skin or an update of the spiritual system of each person, 40 days of effort and discipline are required, maintaining the new behavior, to achieve the correction or teshuva. The tribes waited 39 days and 18 hours, they did not have patience, and 6 hours before closing the deadline, they were scared and asked Aaron to make them the golden calf, to which he agreed, because he knew it was a descent or correction that they had to live and that nobody could avoid.

It was part of the Plan of the Creation. Otherwise, the people would not have learned. Or you learn by studying, or receiving sticks kicks. We Jews and Venezuelans know a lot about that …. According to Kabbalah, this anxiety is a reflection of fear. Likewise, according to Kabbalah, the two feelings, energies or lights that exist in the universe are fear and love. It is what other ancient wisdoms call good and evil, light and darkness, say, those essential dichotomies that are spread throughout the world, and that function as part of the Jung-style collective unconscious.

Everything else you see are mixed feelings, lights or energies derived from these two essential forces, which we perceive in a very varied way due to our senses and our position in the universe. Can the universe be understood and ordered with two basic forces, with two essential factors? The tribes were afraid, they did not wait, and unleashed the terrible forces of the so-called accusing angels which were deep down their own fears and skepticism of divine providencethe kicks of the ego, of the desire to receive a false security even if it were through idolatry.

Idolatric metaphysical comfort. Now, energetically, astrally, what happens in these days of the year, according to Kabbalistic authors? It seems that when the earth passes in its solar orbital rotation movement through this area near the autumnal equinox, it is as if it were crossing over a spiritual Bermuda triangle. I do not know about astrology, but I bet double versus simple that this discipline also perceives alterations and strong energy turbulence these days.

A tradition that I have picked up from the Kabbalist Javier Wolcoff -and that comes from the ARI- points out that the download speed of data emanating from the Zeir Ampin server in this area, through which we pass once a year, simply shoots up. If we continue to mix computing with the ARI Isaac Luria systems, there are those who believe that in this area and at this time of year, we access the mother code of the Creation Plan, which is why we can re-program our operating system in the emotional field, the spiritual, the family, the work, the financial, the health and the cosmic realms, for the entire coming year.

That is why this is a joy journey for many Kabbalists, who want to trash old codes, and update their spiritual systems for the new year.

This rescheduling lasts ten days, until Yom Kippur, and it is arduous, painful, because it hurts the ego, it collapses what we have believed and defended for a whole year, and that is why these days feel so terrible.

That is why sweets are eaten at New Years, to promote a sweet and good year, that is, it is programmed through food and kosher rituals for those who do not have the desire to delve into the fourth level explanation of the Torah that it implies the wisdom of Kabbalah. For Kabbalists, kosher behavior exists and is not discussed, and it is also very important, but from the cabalistic point of view it is perceived that the energy gap and access to the mother code lasts open for 10 days, and it must be taken advantage of.

It is as if you found a wifi without password that allows you to run at an infinite speed, and download applications and games that you could never get even with 5K speed. It is like going from a current computer to a quantum computer. The big rethink? It adds that Blue and White is denying the claim and notes that the sides have only until December 23 to reach a deal on the budget if they want to avoid the vote.

Israel Hayom also leads off with the claims of talks, reporting that Netanyahu is attempting to both avoid elections and avoid the rotation that would give his seat to Blue and White leader Benny Gantz. According to the paper, he gets to climb down from his threats and avoid electoral obliteration. The test balloon is in fact so cockamamie that even Likud denies it.

Soon to be ToI political correspondent Tal Schneider asks on Twitter what exactly it would take for Gantz to believe any deal Netanyahu makes with him.

The polls are, according to the pundits.

Jewish Chat Rooms

Despite obvious flaws with the polls, regarding their methodology, sample sizes and the fact that polls on a new party generating tons of press generally skew favorably toward them, all the polls are taken at face value and seen as the main impetus for Netanyahu and possibly Gantz.

Additional new parties, as well as splits and mergers of existing ones, will no doubt be coming as the nation gears up for its fourth vote in two years — and polls will fluctuate accordingly.

Israeli polls pretend no one is undecided, still trying to make up their minds. Can be very misdealing 3. Blue and White meanwhile drops to a paltry six or seven seats. The entry of another right wing party that is supposedly anti-Netanyahu forces some interesting bloc-making by the journalists trying to analyze the results of the polls. Now they fall to 55 seats. Pro tip: No one has a clue.

Nothing that happens here is expected. This country exists to make fools of would-be prophets…. Only Kadima ever became a party of power, and that was just for a single term. Or is he weakening Netanyahu further by opening a pathway for a center-right parliamentary majority without him? Will their cooperation survive, for example, a Netanyahu rotation offer to the largest of them?

No one knows the answer to that question yet.Last year, I published an article in The Washington Post in which I suggested that people ought to cease comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler because to do so, in my opinion, belittled Hitler. Which was it? Was I a Jew or a Nazi? But my identity troubles were far from over, as a number of the Jewish emailers posed a seemingly simple question which complicated the matter even further:. They, of course, are Good Jews.

It occurred to me that some sort of a list would be helpful. A Jew Type List. Something to help both Nazis and Jews hone their accusations a bit more pointedly. And so I turned, as I often do, to books. Literature provided me with some Jew types, but not all. Film provided a few more, and TV filled in the blanks.

In the end, I identified 10 types of Jew that appear in culture. I present them here in no particular order, other than beginning with my most hated Jew Type and ending with my most beloved. The dreaded, loathsome Type 1 Jew. The Jesse Eisenberg. Fast-talking, moderately intelligent, but whose most salient characteristic is a completely unwarranted arrogance and an utterly baseless superiority. What makes the Type 1 Jesse Eisenberg so irritating is that the very characteristics that make him so hateful are the very one he prides himself upon:.

In fiction, Type 1s are often presented as bookish heroes, as lovable super-nerds whose intellect saves the day and wins the girl. No, really. Type 2 Jews are the most oppressed Jews of all, since they are hated by Jews and non-Jews alike.

If there is a God, and if he has a thing for Jews, these Jews, I imagine, are his favourites —revelling in life and the wonders of Being, while the rest of their people sit in temples and beg forgiveness for enjoying the very world He gave us. Yes, really. Do you read any political theory? Marx explicitly stated socialism is an intermediary towards attempting to establish communism. Oh I thought we were just saying unsubstantiated things. So I guess its my turn to be angry on the internet?

Most of anything you or I will say or argue will come down to semantics, so I will explain this, and talk about more interesting things.

Shanghai stock exchange index historical data

If I catch your drift, you have narrowly defined socialism only in the way Marx would have written it, there were many other writers at the time that had political views which are mostly attributed to a broadly defined socialism. If you respond to this message, you will inevitably try to explain why your narrow definition is the correct definition, and you will pat yourself on the back and go along like nothing had happened.

The Marxian definition might not even be right: In Marx's ideology the end goal is communism, so he argues that socialism could be used as a stepping stone. Using one ideology to get to the other due to their admitted shared similarities. But socialism or socialist policy could just as easily be the end goal, and would have had to had been, as the concept of socialism is older than the concept of communism.

However, we must be careful in two ways, as using a slippery slope logical fallacy could hinder potential benefits or teachings provided by either ideology, just because an idea could be bad, doesn't mean it can have component parts that are good.

But on the other-side, a communist state hinders personal freedoms, and so any society which values freedoms would not want a full implementation of communism. Lastly, I don't really understand modern catholic distrust of socialism, especially considering how crucial catholic thought was to the workers rights movements.

I mean, come on, Dorothy Day, Peter Maurin, and the Catholic Workers Movement, is certainly pro-labor, and by some definitions socialist. Socialism is antithetical to Catholic teaching, as it attempts to assert that no hierarchy can be allowed to exist and is almost entirely anti-religious.

Seeing as a parish is the private property of the Church, under the authority of the Vicar of Christ, it cannot be allowed under a socialist collectivizing system. Ask the French, the bolsheviks, the Spanish, the Chinese, etc. Socialism implementation attempts don't end well for Catholics.

Socialism is an explicit economic theory, being pro-labor and being against socialism aren't mutually exclusive. See here. Yo, I'm still dumbfounded by this comment. Just the cocksure attitude asking him if he read political philosophy, as if you did. Socialism came a few generations before communism and continued to develop after the advent of communism. Neither of these systems is communist, that is striving to create a truly classless, cosmopolitan society.

Communism is just twisted socialism. From what I learned in school, communist dictators used socialist ideals to trick people into thinking they were getting that but it was really communist totalitarian rule. Oh yikes that actually makes a lot more sense. Reading the Manifesto now. I find its criticisms valid despite not agreeing with Communism that from Bolshevism on always required a violent revolution and ended in dictatorship. That said, not sure Marxism was ever installed.

I believe the end results are just natural consequence to keep Communism in place. I would say the church is a great critic, but much like Aristotle finding his way to a concept of the One without direct Revelation: the natural light of reason alone can get us most, if not all, of the way there. The example proves the point. Philip Hammond will unveil his spending plans and any tax hikes or cuts in a speech to the House of Commons, followed by a debate. But in November Mr Hammond announced the Autumn Statement would be scrapped with the main Budget switched to the autumn from 2017.

BBC Two is covering the Budget announcement from 11. You can follow all the news and reactions on our live blog. Alcohol duty could be raised, but cigarettes and diesel duty are thought to be safe from an increase.

Some Tory backbenchers are in open revolt over reforms that will see some shopkeepers and publicans clobbered with tax hikes of up to 400 per cent. The Government is also under intense pressure to give a cash injection to the crisis-hit NHS and care for the elderly. Mr Hammond was given a boost this week as a surge in tax receipts sent government borrowing to its lowest January level in 17 years.

Because of his fears of uncertainty, and a debt mountain edging towards 90 per cent of GDP, experts say the Chancellor is not likely to splurge.

Drinkers will be hoping he does not raise tax on booze after George Osborne last year froze the duty on beer spirits and most ciders. Mr Hammond froze fuel duty but did not mention booze or fags in his maiden mini-budget in November. Listen on DAB, via the talkRADIO app or online at talkradio.

What is clear is that the more lurid predictions made by the Remain camp before the vote have not come to pass. Here we look at some of those predictions and take stock of what Brexit has done to interest rates, inflation, pensions, foreign exchange rates and more. What has actually happened Mortgage rates, and other interest rates, have fallen in response to Brexit.

Analysis The former prime minister and chancellor presumably expected sterling to fall far more than it did after the vote, forcing the Bank of England to raise rates to attract money back to Britain.

Bitter poll to swallow: What the press is saying on December 10

But although the pound has fallen, the decline has not been calamitous (see below). As a result, the Bank was able to cut rates earlier this month.

Those who want to take out fixed-rate loans have also seen rates fall. The price of these deals is driven by interest rates in the broader financial markets, such as yields on gilts (government bonds), which have fallen to new record lows. What has actually happened The pound has fallen and inflation is expected to rise, although the effects take time to work through the economy. Analysis The fall in sterling predicted before the vote has come to pass, and inflation can be expected to follow in time.

What has actually happened Theresa May has committed to keeping the triple lock for the rest of this parliament. Economic developments could render the triple lock unaffordable for the next government.

Baroness Altmann, who was pensions minister under Mr Cameron, has said the commitment to the 2. What has actually happened After an initial sharp fall, the stock market has rallied strongly to levels higher than those before the vote.

Analysis Most workers other than fortunate members of final salary pension schemes have their retirement savings tied up in the stock market. Share prices therefore have a direct impact on the financial prospects of millions of Britons. The London stock market did fall dramatically in the days after the Brexit vote, but has recovered strongly since.

However, younger pension savers would arguably be better off with lower share prices, which would allow their regular contributions to buy more shares or fund units. Their older counterparts will be more concerned with the value of their accumulated pots, which will broadly be higher in the wake of the vote. First, some property funds were forced to suspend trading following a rush of investors who wanted to take out their money.

Many of these funds remain suspended. Second, final salary pension schemes have suffered from the further decline in gilt yields and interest rates. Their deficits, which are largely determined by gilt yields, have increased markedly since the vote.

Ryan Goldberg Deadspin Jun 2016 40min Permalink. By Peter Hayter Updated: 00:47 GMT, 14 September 2010 A senior betting industry expert and adviser to world cricket's Anti-Corruption Unit last night urged them to add the first ball wide from Pakistan fast bowler Mohammed Aamer to the three no-balls under investigation from the tarnished Lord's Test.

Mark Davies was one of the founders of Betfair, the world's largest internet betting exchange, and has advised the Unit on all aspects of the sport's links with the gaming industry. He believes the International Cricket Council inquiry into allegations of bowling no-balls to order - against suspended Pakistan trio Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif and Test captain Salman Butt - should also focus on the opening delivery of the match by Amir, a wide that cost five runs.

The ICC inquiry is running parallel to Scotland Yard's criminal investigation which has led to Aamer, Asif and Butt being interviewed under caution, with a fourth tourist, Wahib Riaz due for interview on Thursday.

The delivery in question was bowled by the left-arm paceman Aamer, 18, over the wicket from the Pavilion End to England captain Andrew Strauss.

It landed a foot outside leg stump and carried on, with the angle, passing the stumps by at least a yard on its way to the boundary. Wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal, along with Butt currently under ICC investigation over possible spot-fixing at the Asia Cup and the World Twenty20, made no attempt to reach the ball as it sailed to the fine leg boundary.

Umpire Billy Bowden signalled four wides which, with the one-run penalty for the wide itself, added up to five runs from the first ball of the match. Fallen idols: The three Pakistani cricketers at the centre of the match fixing allegations, (left to right) Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt, leave Heathrow Airport for LahoreThe bowling of a wide off the first ball has long been understood in cricket circles as open to manipulation for spread betting and spot- fixing.

First ball nerves and, in this case, the need to adjust to the slope at Lord's means such a delivery is not uncommon there. But Davies, whose involvement with the ICC began soon after the setting up of the Anti-Corruption Unit, believes that in the light of the current allegations, Aamer's five-run wide should be scrutinised by the investigation, led by former policeman Sir Ronnie Flanagan. Anyone armed with certain information that the first ball would be a wide and produce five runs could make a lot of money on all those spreads.
